Marudamalai Murugan Temple, perched on the Marudamalai Hill at an elevation of about 500 feet, is one of Coimbatore’s most revered pilgrimage destinations. The temple draws lakhs of devotees annually, especially during Tamil month festivals, Saturdays (dedicated to Murugan), and the grand Panguni Uthiram festival.
About Marudamalai Temple
The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan (Subramanya) and is believed to date to the 10th century CE, though the current structure was renovated in later centuries. The presiding deity is Sri Dandayudhapani Swami, and the temple is known for the healing properties of the herbal plants (maruthu) found on the hill — hence the name “Marudamalai” (Hill of Maruthu).
The hilltop provides a stunning view of Coimbatore city, the plains below, and on clear days, a distant glimpse of the Nilgiris.
